A series of salt pans covering an area the size of Portugal – presents a spine – tingling experience for any visitor. During the dry season these former prehistoric lakes are vast expanses of beautiful arid white, during the wet season, some of the pans fill with water, attracting migrating herds (plus their predators) and migrating flocks, including ducks, geese and great white pelicans. With nothing around for hundreds of miles and spread over an area of 12,000km2, the pans offer the perfect dark sky experience. Depending on the season, you’ll enjoy the opportunity to spot a surprising amount of wildlife from inquisitive meerkats, to the majestic and a rare black-maned Kalahari lion.
